Marvel Comics is gearing up to relaunch its monthly Captain America series, bringing fresh excitement with a new creative team and an innovative story arc that delves into Steve Rogers' initial experiences after being revived from suspended animation. The series promises to explore his very first encounter with the iconic villain, Doctor Doom.

Announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the new series will be penned by acclaimed writer Chip Zdarsky, known for his work on Batman and Daredevil, and illustrated by the talented Valerio Schiti, who has worked on G.O.D.S. and The Avengers. The vibrant colors will be provided by Frank D'Armata. This team previously collaborated on the 2017 series Marvel 2-in-One, and their reunion is highly anticipated by fans.

The series kicks off shortly after Steve Rogers is discovered and defrosted in the modern Marvel era. Upon reenlisting in the US Army, Captain America's first mission involves teaming up with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate Latveria, which has been recently taken over by a young and ambitious Doctor Doom. Although the series will eventually transition to the present-day Marvel setting, the events of this initial story arc will have lasting effects on the ongoing narrative crafted by Zdarsky and Schiti.

“I’ve been a massive Captain America fan for decades. I loved writing the grizzled, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, so getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream!” Zdarsky shared in a statement. “We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers! I’m pretty excited to get this out there in the world, especially with Valerio and Frank’s amazing art!”

Zdarsky further elaborated, “I’ve been approaching this title the way I approached my run on Daredevil, really trying to get in Cap’s head with a grounded, human look at who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers is the best of us, and I want that to come through on every page.”

“Captain America is one of my all-time favorites,” Schiti remarked. “I'm reuniting with Chip Zdarsky and Frank D'Armata after the amazing experience of Marvel 2-In-One, and I'm working on a story that strikes the perfect balance between heart, action, and entertainment! But the thing that is most exciting and unexpected is that I found myself thinking more and more about Steve Rogers, instead of just Captain America."

Schiti added, “Chip's script is so clever and compelling that I’m sure readers will be dragged with us inside Steve's heart and soul. He’s a man that became the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought a war against Nazism, ‘died’ in that war, and came back to life to do his duty and fight again. That’s a lot of pressure, and if you do the math, he’s only in his late twenties in the era we’re exploring!”

Captain America #1 is set to hit the shelves on July 2, 2025. This relaunch promises to be a thrilling journey into the heart and mind of Steve Rogers, offering fans a fresh perspective on one of Marvel's most iconic heroes.
