CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher 4, have taken to social media to alert fans about a rampant beta test invite scam. On April 16, they used The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) account to address the issue, stating they've been notified by the community about fraudulent beta test invitations for The Witcher 4.

In their post, they urged, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."

They further clarified that any future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher’s official social media channels and websites.

First Revealed in December 2024

The Witcher 4 was unveiled at the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer showcasing the game’s new protagonist, Ciri. This announcement sparked widespread discussion within the community, especially since Geralt had been the central figure in the previous three games.

Following the reveal, VGC interviewed The Witcher 4 Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, about the fan reactions to Ciri taking the lead. Weber empathized with fans, expressing his own fondness for playing as Geralt in earlier titles. He assured that the team is committed to addressing fan concerns in upcoming reveals.

Weber elaborated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude towards fans who supported the decision to feature Ciri as the lead. He stated, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

According to the developers, The Witcher 4 is poised to be the most ambitious installment in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. It is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release date has been announced yet.
