Corinne Busche, the director behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to depart from EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. According to Eurogamer, Busche led the game from February 2022 until its launch in October of the previous year. IGN has reached out to EA for further comments on this development.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny regarding its commercial success. Eurogamer notes that while Busche is leaving, BioWare remains unaffected by other significant changes. Busche joined BioWare in 2019, following her time at Maxis, where she contributed to The Sims projects. Her leadership was pivotal in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion, as detailed in IGN’s article about the game's tumultuous development journey over nearly a decade.

Eurogamer clarifies that Busche's departure is not linked to the game's sales performance. EA is yet to disclose whether Dragon Age: The Veilguard met its sales and revenue targets, with financial results expected to be reported on February 4, 2025.

BioWare has confirmed that there will be no DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, shifting focus instead to the highly anticipated Mass Effect 5. Despite numerous teases, full details about the new Mass Effect game remain under wraps.

In August 2023, coinciding with the release of Larian's successful Baldur’s Gate 3, BioWare laid off around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby, who had been with the studio since the inception of Dragon Age. These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which saw the company split into sports and non-sports divisions. Amidst these changes, rumors circulated about BioWare's potential acquisition, and Star Wars: The Old Republic transitioned to a third-party developer to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024 was met with mixed reactions, prompting BioWare to release an early gameplay teaser to reassure fans. The decision to rename the game from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also drew criticism. However, subsequent impressions of the game were generally positive.

With Busche's departure and BioWare's shift in focus, fans of the Dragon Age series are left pondering whether the studio will have the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard.
