The anticipation is reaching its peak as the veil thins! After a decade of eager waiting, BioWare is ready to officially announce the release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on August 15th, with a special trailer set to premiere at 9:00 A.M. PDT (12:00 P.M. EDT).

"We’re thrilled to finally share this long-awaited moment with our fans," BioWare expressed on Twitter (X). The studio also provided a detailed roadmap of upcoming content to keep the excitement alive as we approach the launch. "In the coming weeks, fans can look forward to high-level warrior combat gameplay, Companions Week, and more," the developers announced. Here's what's on the horizon:

A Decade-Long Development

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard's development has been a saga in itself, marked by numerous delays that stretched its timeline over nearly ten years. The project kicked off in 2015, right after the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, the focus at BioWare shifted to Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, pulling resources and talent away from what was then known as "Joplin." The initial design also didn't fit BioWare's new focus on live-service games, leading to a complete halt in development.

It wasn't until 2018 that the project was revived under the new codename "Morrison." After years of dedicated work, the game was officially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022, before finally settling on its current title, Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Despite the challenges, the wait is nearly over. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is gearing up for a launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this fall. So, mark your calendars and prepare to return to Thedas sooner than you might expect.
