In a fascinating glimpse into alternate casting history, auditions for James Bond from 2005 have surfaced online, showcasing Henry Cavill's portrayal of the iconic spy before he was ultimately outshined by Daniel Craig. These intriguing audition tapes were shared on the Ron South YouTube channel, run by an enthusiastic filmmaker boasting 1,890 subscribers. Alongside Cavill, the channel featured auditions from other notable actors such as Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr.

Henry Cavill's performance has particularly captured the public's imagination over the years. Many, including Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale, believed Cavill would have been an excellent fit for 007. Campbell even went on record stating that Cavill's audition was "tremendous" and that he personally favored him for the role. However, the final decision favored Daniel Craig, leaving Cavill to miss out on the legendary role.

Despite not securing the part of James Bond, Cavill embraced the spy genre in the film Argylle, where he starred alongside a powerhouse ensemble including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O’Hara. Unfortunately, Argylle did not fare well with critics, receiving a disappointing 4/10 from IGN despite its impressive cast.

Henry Cavill's career, however, remains robust and diverse. He has portrayed iconic characters such as Superman in the DC universe, Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher, and has taken on numerous other roles, showcasing his versatility and talent in the industry.
