Should You Kill Ygwulf or Let Him Live in Avowed? Answered
In the early stages of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy becomes the target of a tragic assassination. After piecing together the mystery of their own murder with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll uncover the identity of your killer: Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels who fiercely oppose Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you're a prime target for their cause.
Tracking down Ygwulf leads you to an underground hideout where you'll need to navigate through enemies and platforming challenges. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for the journey. As you progress, you'll uncover documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his remorse for his actions. He had initially believed that the Gods compelled him to kill the Envoy, but later realized his visions were misguided. When you confront him, Ygwulf expresses regret and is open to facing justice.
What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?
Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. If you send him to face the Inquisitor Lödwyn, he'll meet a brutal and painful end, yet this path yields the least rewards compared to other options. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he'll offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude for your mercy. Although these resources won't drastically change your gameplay, they can be useful. However, sparing Ygwulf won't change his ultimate fate; he'll be killed off later in the story regardless of your choice.
Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed
Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed with death no matter your decision, opting to attack him during your dialogue encounter is the best choice. This decision leads to a boss fight, providing valuable practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Defeating Ygwulf also grants you the richest rewards among the options. You'll be able to loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. This armor not only looks impressive but also offers substantial stealth benefits, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching.
Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING
Despite Ygwulf's early introduction in the game, his fate subtly influences the ending of *Avowed*. After the final gameplay section, the game's conclusion showcases through art and narration how your decisions impact Eora's Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and bring peace to the region, Ygwulf's death will always occur, further radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent resistance against your efforts post-credits.
