Ryan Reynolds Reveals Why Deadpool Shouldn't Join the Avengers or X-Men
Ryan Reynolds has cast doubt on the possibility of Deadpool joining either the Avengers or the X-Men, suggesting that such a move would signify the end of the character's journey. "If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end," Reynolds told Time. "That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that." This statement comes despite the character's clear desire to join the Avengers, as showcased in the successful film Deadpool & Wolverine.
The recent cast reveal for Avengers: Doomsday featured several veteran X-Men actors, including Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. This has led to speculation that Avengers: Doomsday might secretly be an Avengers vs. X-Men movie. However, Reynolds' name was notably absent from the cast list, further supported by his comments that a formal promotion to either team isn't in Deadpool's future.
Despite ruling out a full-time role with the Avengers or X-Men, Reynolds hinted at the possibility of Deadpool making a surprise cameo in a supporting capacity, similar to Wesley Snipes' well-received appearance as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Looking ahead, Reynolds is currently working on a new project that he described as involving an "ensemble," though he remained tight-lipped about the details. This suggests that the next Deadpool venture might continue the trend of featuring numerous cameos, potentially including characters like Snipes' Blade, Channing Tatum's Gambit, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, and Dafne Keen's Laura Kinney/X-23.
As for Avengers: Doomsday, details beyond the cast list remain sparse. Anthony Mackie, who will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, expressed optimism about the film, saying it would "give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had." Other cast members like Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch have also shared their excitement. Additionally, a set photo leak has fueled further speculation among fans, some of whom believe it hints at trouble for the X-Men. Meanwhile, rumors have circulated about Oscar Isaac potentially appearing as Moon Knight, especially after he withdrew from a Star Wars event due to scheduling conflicts. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige confirmed that the announced cast for Avengers: Doomsday is not exhaustive, hinting at more surprises to come.
