"Schizophrenic Fan Inspired by Arkham Knight, Receives Kevin Conroy's Latest Video"
In 2020, a deeply moving story emerged on Reddit involving a fan of Batman: Arkham Knight who was battling schizophrenia. The game's ending, where Batman confronts and overcomes his fears, paranoia, and hallucinations, resonated profoundly with the fan. He saw Batman's journey as a parallel to his own struggles with the illness. Inspired by the game, he reached out to Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, through the Cameo service to express his gratitude.
Expecting a standard 30-second video, the fan was instead gifted with over six minutes of heartfelt encouragement from Conroy. Moved by the fan's personal story, Conroy went beyond a mere formal address, creating a video that became a lifeline for the fan during his darkest moments.
"This video has saved me from suicide countless times. Hearing Batman say he believed in me was incredibly powerful... But as time went on, it became just as important that it was Kevin himself who believed in me," the fan shared. Initially hesitant to share the video publicly, he changed his mind upon learning that Conroy had a personal connection to schizophrenia through his brother. The fan hoped that sharing the video might help others facing similar challenges.
"If someone in his family asks me to delete this video, I will of course do so. But it has inspired me in my toughest moments, and maybe it will inspire someone else. Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you," he added, emphasizing the message of hope and perseverance.
Tragically, Kevin Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. Yet, his words and the legacy of his portrayal of Batman continue to inspire millions around the world.
