Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations Following CEO's Retirement

Insomniac Games, renowned for the Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed keen interest in further adapting its games into film and television. This revelation emerged from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider during a Variety interview, coinciding with the announcement of founder and CEO Ted Price's retirement.

Schneider highlighted the studio's prior experience with the 2016 Ratchet & Clank movie, stating, "We kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular." While the 2016 film received mixed reviews, Insomniac, now under the Sony umbrella since 2019, is optimistic about future adaptations, leveraging Sony's proven success in game-to-screen projects like the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series.

Sony's Track Record in Game Adaptations

Insomniac's ambitions align with Sony's established success in bringing video game properties to life. Recent successes include the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us series. Further bolstering their commitment, Sony announced additional projects at CES 2025:

The interview also marked the announcement of Ted Price's retirement after a 30-year tenure as Insomniac's founder and CEO. Price, instrumental in building the studio behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man, stated his decision was made last year, citing a desire to allow new leadership to guide the company's future.

Three veteran Insomniac employees—Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang—will assume leadership as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in their ability to continue Insomniac's success, emphasizing their deep understanding of the studio's culture and processes.
