The leaked artbook reveals intriguing details, including concepts for renowned historical figures, major cities, and a diverse range of weaponry. The artwork also seemingly spoils aspects of Assassin's Creed Shadows' plot. While confirmation awaits the game's official release, the leaked images appear authentic.
The leak comes shortly before Assassin's Creed Shadows' launch on March 20, 2025, following a delay that shifted its release from 2024 to February.
At a recent preview event, IGN interviewed Assassin's Creed Shadows game director Charles Benoit. He confirmed the month-long delay was primarily focused on polishing the game, without altering core systems. Minor adjustments were made to progression and balancing, with the parkour system receiving the most significant attention due to the unique challenges presented by Feudal Japan's architecture.
"The Japanese architecture, the roofs [are] super complex," Benoit explained. "Probably the most complex thing that I ever worked with if we compared to Odyssey and Syndicate. We needed specific codes and specific animations to support something super fluid, changing the transition of the parkour to make it even more fluid. So that's one of the specific feedback that we heard that we wanted to address, and it really improved since the last few months."
