Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is making waves with its performance across various platforms, backed by positive feedback from multiple gaming outlets. Both PlayStation and Xbox consoles have demonstrated smooth gameplay at both 30fps and 60fps settings. The PS5 Pro enhances this further by leveraging its advanced capabilities to improve the rendering of the game world, resulting in superior graphics. KCD2's commitment to photo-realistic visuals sets it apart, especially as it continues to utilize CryTek’s CryEngine.

Warhorse Studios, the developer behind KCD2, chose to stick with CryEngine due to their familiarity with it, enabling them to refine and expand upon the engine's capabilities for the sequel. According to PC Gamer, CryEngine’s old-school rendering approach focuses on performance, using fewer shaders and simpler lighting techniques. Despite this, KCD2 achieves photo-realistic imagery through the use of physically based materials. Eurogamer highlights CryEngine’s sparse voxel octree global illumination (SVOGI), which produces realistic indirect light effects, enhancing the visual experience with dynamic lighting from torches and accurate reflections on various surfaces.

PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Have 30 FPS and 60 FPS Options

For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, KCD2 offers two distinct modes: a fidelity mode that runs at 30fps with a resolution of 1440p, and a performance mode at 60fps with a resolution of 1080p. The Xbox Series S, however, is limited to the fidelity mode only. On the other hand, the PS5 Pro offers a single mode, running at 60fps with a base resolution of 1296p, utilizing PSSR upscaling to achieve 4K visuals.

Fidelity mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X enhances the visual quality with increased foliage and improved shadow rendering across landscapes, significantly enhancing outdoor scenes and ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro takes this a step further, elevating the visual fidelity with sharper images, enhanced ambient occlusion, and superior overall image quality.

Upscaling Is Completely Optional For PC

For PC players, KCD2 provides the flexibility to choose whether to use upscaling technologies like FSR and DLSS, which help render the game at a lower resolution for improved performance. Notably, there are no options for XeSS for Intel cards, no sharpening features, or frame generation for additional graphical enhancements.

Even though CryEngine prioritizes performance, running KCD2 at 4K with maximum settings can still be demanding on GPUs. However, the game offers highly scalable graphics options, allowing players to select from five different quality presets—low, medium, high, ultra, and experimental—to optimize performance based on their system’s capabilities. KCD2 also provides a comprehensive guide to help players prepare their systems, detailing hardware requirements and other important considerations.
