Battlefield Studios, in collaboration with Electronics Art (EA), has introduced a revolutionary community initiative named Battlefield Labs. Announced on February 3, 2025, this platform is designed to involve players directly in the development process of future Battlefield games. Players will have the opportunity to test and provide feedback on game concepts, mechanics, and features, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the next generation of Battlefield titles.

The upcoming Battlefield game is currently "entering a critical phase in development that will benefit from collaboration with the community like never before," according to the announcement. This phase positions players at the forefront, allowing them to test new features and mechanics before the game's official release.

Battlefield Studios plans to invite a select group of players from Europe and North American servers to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs. While an exact release date remains undisclosed, interested individuals can sign up now through this link.

Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that."

Although not all players will have the chance to participate directly, Battlefield Studios ensures that the broader community will stay updated. Regular published updates from the team will keep everyone informed throughout the testing process. Furthermore, the studio aims to continue collaborating with the community on future Battlefield titles.

"Battlefield Studios is comprised of DICE, creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, a studio led by franchise veterans working on an all-new experience for the series; Motive, the developers of the critically acclaimed Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, known for world-class racing franchises and playing a key role in several Battlefield entries."

Features and Mechanics to Test in Battlefield Labs

Participants in Battlefield Labs won't get to experience the entire game but rather "different pieces of an unfinished puzzle so we have time to incorporate your feedback into the final product." Battlefield Studios has outlined the mechanics and features that players will test, as reported in a Battlefield news article.

"We will start by testing the pillars of play, like core combat and destruction," Battlefield Studios explained. "Then transition to balance and feedback for our weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, ultimately leading to where all these pieces come together in our maps, modes, and squad play." This includes testing two existing modes: Conquest and Breakthrough, where players can contribute ideas to enhance these modes.

Conquest mode centers around large-scale battles where teams compete to capture Control Points (flags) from the opposing team. Each team begins with a set number of tickets, and the team that runs out of tickets first loses. Tickets are depleted when a team member respawns or when the enemy team controls more flags.

In Breakthrough mode, teams are designated as attackers or defenders. Attackers must capture sectors on the map, while defenders aim to prevent this. Similar to Conquest, a ticket system is used, but attackers can replenish their tickets by securing a sector. Additionally, eliminating any remaining enemy soldiers after a sector is secured grants an extra three tickets.

Battlefield Studios is also committed to refining the class system in future Battlefield games. Despite the game's current progress, the team values player feedback immensely. "We tirelessly playtest, but your feedback will supercharge our development as we strive to hit that perfect note between form, function, and feel," they stated.
