New Frontiers and Foes Await in 'The Witcher 4'

CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new locations and terrifying monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.

Following The Game Awards 2024 on December 14th, Gamertag Radio's Parris interviewed Witcher 4 director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga. The interview confirmed the introduction of fresh environments and creatures.

While Ciri follows in Geralt's footsteps, her journey leads players to unexplored corners of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village in the trailer as "Stromford," where a disturbing ritual involving young girls appeases their "god."

This "god," revealed as the monster "Bauk," is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying foe, instilling fear in its victims. Beyond Bauk, players will face a diverse array of new monsters.

Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for the new regions and monsters but remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising an entirely new experience within the familiar Continent setting.

A subsequent Skill UP interview on December 15th with Kalemba and Mitręga confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Stromford's location in the far north suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's explorations.

Enhanced NPC Interactions in The Witcher 4

The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted CD Projekt Red's commitment to improving NPCs. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba emphasized the increased diversity in Witcher 4, aiming to give each NPC a unique life and story. The close-knit nature of a secluded village will influence NPC interactions with Ciri and other characters.

Improvements extend to visual fidelity, behavior, and facial expressions, promising a more immersive experience.
