Bloodborne PC Emulation: Near-Perfect 60 FPS Achieved
Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently put Bloodborne through its paces on the ShadPS4 emulator, analyzing its performance and the impact of community-created enhancements. His tests utilized ShadPS4 build 0.5.1 by diegolix29, based on raphaelthegreat's custom branch, chosen for its superior performance on his AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and GeForce RTX 4080 system after trying several builds.
Morgan highlights the Vertex Explosion Fix mod as crucial for eliminating distracting visual glitches manifesting as distorted polygons. While this mod disables pre-game character face customization, it's a necessary trade-off for a smoother visual experience. No other mods are needed; ShadPS4's built-in menu offers extensive options, including 60fps support, resolution scaling up to 4K, and chromatic aberration toggles.
While occasional stutters were present, Morgan found Bloodborne maintained a mostly stable 60fps frame rate. Experiments with higher resolutions (1440p and 1800p) yielded improved visuals, but at the cost of significant performance drops and frequent crashes. Therefore, he recommends sticking to 1080p (native PS4 resolution) or 1152p for optimal stability.
Morgan concludes that ShadPS4's ability to emulate Bloodborne is a remarkable feat, praising the emulator's overall performance despite some remaining technical challenges. The game runs impressively well, making this a significant achievement for the ShadPS4 development team.
