An exclusive email interview with Pixel Tribe, the creators of the upcoming Kakao Games title, Goddess Order, reveals insights into their pixel RPG development process. We spoke with Ilsun (Art Director) and Terron J. (Contents Director).

Pixel Tribe: A Deep Dive into Goddess Order

Droid Gamers: What inspires your pixel sprite creation?

Ilsun (Pixel Tribe): As Art Director, I oversee Goddess Order's visuals. Building on the pixel art success of Crusaders Quest, we aim for a console-quality feel emphasizing narrative. Each character and background is meticulously pixel-crafted. Inspiration draws from countless games and stories, focusing on expressing form and movement through pixel arrangement. It's less about specific references and more about the subtle influence of accumulated experience. Think of a wellspring of inspiration, drawing from daily life observations. Team collaboration is key; the initial characters, Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan, evolved through discussions and shared passion. Collaboration with writers and designers further refines character concepts, often starting with intriguing story prompts and evolving through collaborative sketching and refinement.

Droid Gamers: How do you approach world-building in a fantasy RPG?

Terron J. (Pixel Tribe): World-building in Goddess Order originates from our pixel art characters. Lisbeth, Violet, and Yan defined the game's immersive gameplay. Character development is central; they possess inherent identities, actions, and purposes. I flesh out their stories, witnessing their growth and heroic narratives unfold. The game's manual controls reflect the characters' strength, making scenario writing a uniquely rewarding experience.

Droid Gamers: How are combat styles and animations designed?

Terron J. (Pixel Tribe): Goddess Order's combat involves three characters using linked skills. Design focuses on strategic battle formations and unique character roles (e.g., powerful attackers, support healers). Linked skill timing is crucial. We adjust characters to ensure unique advantages and streamlined controls.

Ilsun (Pixel Tribe): Visually, we emphasize impactful combat. While 2D pixel art is used, characters exhibit three-dimensional movement. We utilize physical models (swords, spears, etc.) to study movement for authentic animations.

Terron J. (Pixel Tribe): Technical optimization is paramount for smooth mobile gameplay, ensuring consistent performance across devices without compromising cutscenes or immersion.

Droid Gamers: What's next for Goddess Order?

Ilsun (Pixel Tribe): Goddess Order offers a JRPG experience with a narrative following the Lisbeth Knights. Post-launch, we plan to add activities like quests and treasure hunts, along with continuous updates to chapter and origin stories. Advanced content with refined controls will also be introduced.
